He is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases involving the colon, rectum, and anus. He is proficient in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques.
Prior to opening a private practice in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Burkholder worked for four years at Alaska Colorectal Surgery in Anchorage, Alaska. He was one of three colorectal surgeons providing specialized care in the state of Alaska. During this time he also served as General Surgery Sub-Section Chair at Providence Hospital and Trauma Director at Alaska Regional Hospital.
Dr. Burkholder received his B.A. with Honors in 1999 from the University of Manitoba. He received his M.D. fromNew York University School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 2009. He then completed a colorectal surgery fellowship in 2010 at the University of Texas, Houston. He is board certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery.
